What “Tall” Should Actually Mean on a Clothing Label
The word “tall” on a clothing label should mean more than a longer hem.
For tall women, a better standard considers where the garment is shaped across the entire body.
Tall Should Include Proportion
Depending on the garment, that can mean inseam, rise, knee placement, torso length, sleeve length, waist placement, and overall silhouette.
Why Length Alone Is Not Enough
A pant can reach the shoe while the knee sits too high. A jumpsuit can have enough leg length while pulling through the torso. A blazer can cover the hips while the sleeves stop short.
Garment Specific Fit Matters
Not every style needs the same adjustments. The fit questions for a jumpsuit are different from the fit questions for denim or a bodysuit. “Tall” should reflect the needs of the actual garment.
The Standard TJL Wants to Push Forward
Tall women should be able to evaluate clothing by proportion, not just by whether the hem reaches far enough.
